EXPERIENCE PARIS

IT’S TIME TO

A FRENCH DELICACY

The capital city of France is renowned worldwide for its unparalleled art, history, and culture. Situated on the River Seine, in the heart of the Île-de-France region, Paris is celebrated for its beautiful city plan, architecture, museums, bridges, gardens, and monuments. Often dubbed "The City of Light" (La Ville Lumière), both for its leading role during the Age of Enlightenment, and more literally because Paris was one of the first large European cities to use gas street lighting on a grand scale on its boulevards.

FUN THINGS TO DO

Standing at approximately 324 meters (1,063 feet) tall, the Eiffel Tower was the tallest man-made structure in the world until the completion of the Chrysler Building in New York in 1930. Originally intended as a temporary exhibit, the tower was saved from dismantlement when it proved useful as a radio telegraph station. The meticulously kept gardens are bustling with tourists, people selling drinks and people drinking them! The tower is illuminated by golden lights from sunset until 1 AM. Additionally, for 5 minutes at the start of each hour, the Eiffel Tower features a sparkling light show!

Be mesmerized by a live performance

There are a number of live performances that will blow your socks off in Paris. Some are more reasonably priced than others, though. There is the famous Moulin Rouge show, which will set you back at least €120 for a show ticket, and €220 for show + dinner ticket. The Paradis Latin show is a more affordable option, which is €50 for people under 26 years old, and €90 for a regular ticket. This show was the highlight of the trip!

The Louvre Museum is the world's largest art museum. It is renowned for its expansive collection that spans thousands of years and cultures, from ancient civilizations to the mid-19th century. These collections encompass over 38,000 objects, and among its most famous pieces are the "Mona Lisa" by Leonardo da Vinci, the "Venus de Milo," and the "Winged Victory of Samothrace." Put on your best walking shoes, because this place is huge! General admission is €22 for a ticket, for under 18s it's free, and European residents between 18 - 25 can also enter for free. Make sure to book the tickets regardless to avoid disappointment.

Stroll around the Palace & Gardens of Versailles

Located approximately 20 kilometers southwest of Paris, the Palace of Versailles is not only a monument to the glory of France's royal past but also a UNESCO World Heritage site. Its gardens feature many ostentatious fountains that play along to classical music. To see both the Versailles palace, the estate of Trianon, and the Versailles gardens, a regular combo ticket will cost you €32. Under 18s and European Union residents under 26 pay only €10. Children under 6 enter for free.

The catacombs consist of underground tunnels that extend over 300 kilometers. They were created in the late 18th century to address the city's overflowing cemeteries and the health problems they caused. Over the years, the bones of millions of Parisians were moved to the Catacombs, with the process continuing until the mid-19th century. The remains were arranged in the tunnels in a macabre display of decorative arrangements, making the Catacombs a somber yet fascinating sight. Tickets can be bought online for €10, and buying tickets well in advance is recommended, as the time slots are often already fully booked for the next week.

The Aquarium de Paris is involved in conservation efforts and educational programs aimed at raising awareness about marine ecosystems and the importance of preserving them. A regular ticket costs €22.

With more than 400 parks and gardens, Paris is the most wooded capital in Europe. Top parks in Paris are:

Jardin des Tuileries: Located between the Louvre Museum and Place de la Concorde, the Tuileries Garden is a historic park that dates back to the 16th century.

Luxembourg Gardens (Jardin du Luxembourg): This is perhaps the most popular park among both Parisians and tourists. There's a large pond where children can rent miniature boats, playgrounds, and beautifully landscaped flower beds.

Jardin des Plantes: The main botanical garden in France, Jardin des Plantes is not only a place for leisurely walks but also a center for scientific research with its natural history museum and greenhouses. It has a small zoo, the Ménagerie du Jardin des Plantes, which is one of the world's oldest zoos.

Here are some of the best cathedrals in Paris that are a testament to its rich religious and architectural heritage:

Notre-Dame de Paris: Undoubtedly the most famous cathedral in Paris and one of the finest examples of French Gothic architecture.

Sainte-Chapelle: While not a cathedral, Sainte-Chapelle is a royal chapel located within the medieval Palais de la Cité, the residence of the Kings of France until the 14th century. It's known for its breathtaking stained-glass windows.

Sacré-Cœur Basilica: Perched atop Montmartre, the highest point in the city, the Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Paris. Inside, one can find one of the world's largest mosaics, and its bell tower houses one of the heaviest bells in the world.

The Seine flows through the city, which allows for a hop-on hop-off boat (Batobus) that features 9 popular stops through the city for €23 per day pass. There are also hour-long sightseeing cruises departing from various points in the city. A ticket costs between €15 and €20 depending on the departure point. Another option is a lunch or dinner cruise on the Seine. A dinner cruise that includes drinks, a starter, a main course and dessert costs around €95 per adult.
