GO ROCK CLIMBING ALONG THE COAST
The region is known for its limestone cliffs overlooking the Atlantic Ocean, providing both beginner-friendly routes and challenges for experienced climbers. The beauty of climbing here is not just in the sport but also in the stunning coastal views that accompany it. This is not for the faint of heart. There were a couple of occasions where a wave hit the rocks at a speed I was not prepared for, so make sure to stay safe! It is not recommended to do without a guide. Cliffside activities with a guide will cost you €40 and can be found via the link below!
GO FOR A COASTAL NATURE HIKE
We did at least 10kms of hiking along the coast, and the view was stunning! There are some beautiful orange clay hills to hike past, making the landscape quite unique. There must be specific hiking trails, but we just chose to wander around. Alongside the coastal hiking, you can do some coastal rock climbing (at own risk!)
TAKE A (GLASS BOTTOM) BOAT TRIP
The rock formations along the coast of Albufeira is already quite the sight - but the caves might be even better. Along the coast you can often spot dolphins and other marine life, which is easier when you take the glass bottom boat cruise. The boat does a stop so you can swim, but you can also opt for a snorkeling boat trip or a booze cruise. Check the website for options!
GO PARASAILING OVER THE OCEAN
Parasailing offers some beautiful and quiet views over the ocean. It takes a boat trip to get out far enough into the ocean, where sometimes dolphins and other marine life can be spotted. The cheapest option found for parasailing will set you back €35 per flyer, and you can also do tandem or triple flights.
DRINK COCKTAILS ON THE STRIP
The Strip in Albufeira is a lively area known for its vibrant nightlife. It's lined with a variety of bars, clubs, restaurants, and shops, attracting a young and energetic crowd. During the day, it's a place to browse shops and enjoy meals, but at night, it transforms into a bustling nightlife hub with music and entertainment lasting until the early hours. There are many Irish pubs, places to play some pool, and cocktail bars!
GO PADDLE BOARDING OR KAYAKING IN THE BENAGIL CAVE
A stunning and interactive way to explore the coast of the Algarve! The Benagil Cave, with a giant hole in the middle, is the sight to see on this coastline. You can either join a kayak tour for €35, or rent a paddle board or kayak for €15. The company offering cliffjumping that was mentioned earlier also does a paddle board tour through the caves, but this is around €50.
TAKE A SURFING LESSON
Surfing in Albufeira offers opportunities for both beginners and experienced surfers, thanks to the diverse conditions along the Algarve coast. Nearby spots provide good surfing conditions, especially during the off-season months when the swell is more consistent. A surfing lesson with equipment rental will cost you €35.
RENT A JET SKI OR RIDE THE TWISTER
For those that love adrenalin inducing activities on holiday, renting a jetski or being pulled by a speedboat on an inflatable contraption is just the thing for you. Jet ski's start from €45 for 1 person for 15 minutes, to €85 for two people for 30 minutes. Check which one is best for you and your group! The twister, the banana slider, and whatever else available inflatables takes about 10 minutes and costs around €20.
GO CORK SHOPPING
There are many little cork shops around Albufeira & Vilamoura with all sorts of accessories and clothing items made of cork. Cork oak grows in Portugal, and it is a relatively sustainable locally sourced material. The cork oak lifetime is in the range of 170-200 years, the harvesting process does not lead to the destruction of the tree, and the cork will regenerate its own bark every 9-11 years after harvest. Unique, sustainable local accessories as souvenirs!
